A deadly attack on a mining site in Oreke-Okeigbo, Kwara State, led to the killing of two police officers and the abduction of a Chinese national and a Nigerian. The assault occurred at about 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, when unknown gunmen stormed the area. The victims included Assistant Superintendent of Police Haruna Watsai and Inspector Tukur Ogah, both from the 45 Police Mobile Force in Abuja. The attackers also took the officers’ rifles.
The Kwara State Police Command, through Public Relations Officer SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, condemned the attack as brutal and confirmed ongoing efforts to capture the perpetrators. The abducted individuals were identified as Mr. Sam Xie Wie, a Chinese worker at the mining site, and Mr. David Adenaiye, a Nigerian from Kogi State. Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo assured the public that tactical and intelligence operations are active to rescue the victims and arrest those involved.
Police work closely with other security agencies and local communities to boost safety and prevent further incidents. Residents have been urged to stay calm, obey the law, and provide any useful information to assist in the investigation and rescue efforts.
