A Nigerian woman, Uloma Nwogu, based in the UK, recently shared a shocking account of how the father of her children resurfaced after years of absence and tried to manipulate her for a visa opportunity. Uloma, who relocated to the UK two years ago with her children, detailed how she had single-handedly raised them for six years, enduring immense physical and mental stress, even developing high blood pressure due to the challenges of single motherhood in a foreign country.
In a Facebook post, Uloma revealed that the father, who had been absent for years, reached out to her in January, expressing a desire to reconnect with their children. After several conversations, he made a surprising offer: to reimburse her for the children’s school fees over the past six years in exchange for being added to her visa. Uloma calculated the amount to be N7.9 million, and to her shock, he paid the sum within 30 minutes. She tearfully reflected on how she had previously begged him to contribute to the children’s school fees, only to be blocked when she asked.
However, the man’s actions didn’t stop there. Once he gained access to the children, he began pressuring Uloma to return to Nigeria for a legal marriage, arguing that their traditional union was insufficient for his visa application. When Uloma refused and blocked him, he allegedly retaliated by involving her family, even claiming that he had paid for a visa and accusing her of scamming him. Uloma’s family is now handling the situation, challenging him to provide proof of the alleged scam.
Her post sheds light on the emotional and financial toll of dealing with a manipulative and absent partner while trying to raise children alone in a foreign country.
