Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, experienced unusually quiet streets on Friday as residents respected the sit-at-home order issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB) to honor fallen Biafra heroes. Almost all roads were empty, with only a few tricycles and vehicles passing through. Businesses remained closed, including shops, markets, motor parks, and banks. Schools, both public and private, also stayed shut.
Despite the quiet, some youths took to the streets to play soccer, while others gathered at the entrances of their homes, discussing current events. No security personnel were visible during the day, and no clashes were reported between the authorities and those supporting the sit-at-home directive.
The calm observance marked a peaceful remembrance, with the city showing full compliance with the call to honor Biafra’s history.
