UNIZIK Student Dies After Reported Drug Incident and Fall from Lodge Balcony

A UNIZIK student has died after reportedly consuming a substance and jumping from a three-storey lodge. Authorities are investigating the incident.

A male student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has died after falling from the balcony of his off-campus residence. The incident occurred on the evening of Thursday, June 5. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud sound and found the student lying in a pool of blood near the base of the three-storey building.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel confirmed his death. According to residents of the lodge, the student had allegedly consumed a substance known locally as “colos” before the fall. Witness accounts suggest that another student living in the same lodge gave him the substance shortly before the incident.

A video shared online shows several students confronting the individual who provided the substance, accusing him of doing nothing as the victim jumped from the balcony. The accused appeared unresponsive and confused during the confrontation, with reports suggesting he may have also been under the influence.

Authorities have taken him into custody and plan to question him once he is in a stable condition. An official investigation into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death is ongoing.
