The United States has approved the sale of bomb guidance kits worth $510 million to Israel, according to an official announcement on Monday. This decision follows Israel’s large-scale use of military equipment during its recent attacks on Iran.
The US Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) confirmed the proposed deal, explaining that the equipment will help Israel strengthen its defence systems and protect its territory, people, and infrastructure. The agency stated that the US remains committed to Israel’s security and views the sale as crucial to America’s national interests.
The State Department has given its approval, but the transaction still requires approval from the U.S. Congress.
The development comes shortly after Israel launched significant airstrikes on June 13, targeting Iranian nuclear facilities, top scientists, and military leaders. Israel claimed the operation aimed to end Iran’s nuclear efforts, which Tehran insists are for peaceful use. However, US officials and other global powers believe the program is intended to develop nuclear weapons.
Former US President Donald Trump had earlier explored diplomatic talks to replace the nuclear deal he scrapped in 2018, but later opted for military strikes against Iran’s nuclear sites.
A ceasefire has paused the recent conflict, yet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu maintains that Israel will not allow Iran to rebuild its nuclear capabilities, raising fears of renewed tension in the region.
