Mrs. Stella Ayowale has filed a case in an Ondo court after discovering that her husband, Michael, sold their jointly owned house and car without informing her and relocated abroad. The incident took place in Osi-Igoba, Akure, where the couple had lived together for three years.
According to her testimony, Michael told her he was travelling to Abuja for a business deal and gave her N20,000 to manage household expenses during his absence. She had no idea that he had finalized the sale of their house and car behind her back. The truth only surfaced on May 26, 2025, when the new property owner’s representatives showed up with a purchase receipt and asked her to vacate the premises.
Shocked and confused, Mrs. Ayowale sought help from neighbours and was temporarily sheltered by one of them while she reached out to her family and legal advisers. She told the court that since the incident, her husband’s family has cut ties with her, which raised suspicions that they may have known about or supported his actions.
The situation has drawn attention within the community, with many expressing sympathy for Mrs. Ayowale. The emotional and financial toll has been significant, especially as the couple has no children and she now finds herself displaced and betrayed. Reports from Hope Newspaper, a state-owned publication, confirm that she is determined to pursue justice and reclaim her rights through legal channels.
The case serves as a reminder of the need for stronger protections in shared property ownership, particularly in marriages. It also sheds light on how easily one partner can be excluded from crucial decisions, with lasting consequences.
