Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has stressed the need for constant inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects to ensure they are delivered on time and meet the expected standards. During a recent visit to construction sites across Abuja, Wike told reporters that staying behind a desk is not enough when it comes to overseeing public projects. He believes that going on-site helps identify problems early and allows for quick solutions before final handover.
During Tuesday’s inspection, he visited the Mabushi Bus Terminal and other major sites. The minister said that such visits help him evaluate the work personally and ensure contractors are on the right track. According to the Director of Press, Anthony Ogunleye, some of the projects visited included the Giri District Road Network, the 16-kilometre Inner Northern Expressway with its 15-span bridge connecting Idu to Kubwa and Zuba, the Collector Road CN8 in Jabi, and the new Court of Appeal Complex in Abuja.
Wike revealed that Levante Construction Limited is in charge of the Giri Road Network, while Salini Nigeria Limited is handling the Inner Northern Expressway. Both are expected to finish their respective projects by May 2025. The Court of Appeal Complex, he added, is set for completion by September 2025.
Speaking on the progress at the expressway bridge, Wike noted that there has been a clear improvement. He recalled how he had previously complained about the roughness of the work during earlier visits but acknowledged that the construction team had made significant progress. He said the project now reflects the kind of quality expected under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The minister also highlighted the benefits these projects bring to local communities. He explained that residents in areas around the bridge and new roads now have better connections to the rest of Abuja, which improves their quality of life. To keep work moving without interruptions, Wike promised that payments to contractors would be made on time.
His visits, he said, will continue to be a regular part of his job, ensuring that every project is delivered to the highest possible standard and that no detail is overlooked.
