Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, has fired back at Bolaji Abdullahi, the interim spokesman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), over recent comments accusing Wike of playing a role in the collapse of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Abdullahi had alleged that Wike allowed himself to be used to destroy what was once Africa’s strongest opposition party. He claimed that this betrayal pushed him and others to walk away from the PDP.
Responding on Friday, Olayinka said Abdullahi’s troubles had nothing to do with Wike and everything to do with his own political greed and constant party-switching. He described Abdullahi and his allies as a “coalition of confusion,” focused on grabbing power rather than helping Nigerians.
He questioned why Abdullahi left the PDP in 2014, suggesting it was due to his fallout with his former mentor, Senator Bukola Saraki, not because of Wike. He also reminded Nigerians that Abdullahi had served under President Goodluck Jonathan before joining the APC, only to leave again in 2018 when his ambitions weren’t met.
Olayinka argued that Abdullahi’s history of failed political bids, including his unsuccessful runs for governorship and Senate in Kwara State, showed that the people no longer trust him. He labelled him a political liability, urging him to face the facts rather than shifting blame.
He dismissed the ADC coalition’s claim of wanting to “save Nigeria’s democracy,” questioning how a group that includes serial defectors and controversial figures like Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, and Dino Melaye could lead any credible movement.
According to Olayinka, these politicians are driven by personal ambition, not national interest. “Too bad,” he concluded, “they won’t get the power they’re after.”
