The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the formation of new caretaker committees for Bayelsa and Edo states. This decision was taken by the South-South Zonal Working Committee (ZWC) during a meeting chaired by the National Vice-Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih. The new committees will manage party affairs in both states for an initial period of three months.
According to a statement released in Abuja by Mr. Etim Isong, the Zonal Publicity Secretary, the former leadership in Bayelsa was dissolved, and the caretaker committee in Edo was replaced due to what the ZWC described as serious misconduct. The committee pointed to breaches of the party’s constitution and poor management of internal conflicts as key issues that led to the action. In Edo, the ZWC also cited the PDP’s underwhelming performance in the last governorship election as a contributing factor.
Isong explained that the move was guided by a careful review of recent activities in both states and aligned with key sections of the PDP Constitution. The ZWC hopes this step will rebuild party unity and improve internal governance.
For Bayelsa, George Turnah, the South-South Zonal Secretary, will serve as chairman. Tony Gabriel has been named deputy chairman, and Ebilade Ekerefe will take up the role of secretary. Other committee members include Didi Werilaghebofa (Vice Chairman, Central), Andy Majors (Vice Chairman, East), Evelyn Odi (Vice Chairman, West), Biobelemoye Igoniwari (Treasurer), Awudumapu Agorodi (Legal Adviser), Erepagamo Eke-Spiff (Financial Secretary), Amain Oyeintariperedei (Auditor), Derri Wright (Publicity Secretary), Christian Akuraku (Organising Secretary), Ato Alfreda (Woman Leader), and Nicholas Eferebo (Youth Leader).
In Edo, Nosa Ogieva has been appointed chairman with Chief Sunny Okomayin as deputy chairman. Hillary Otsu will serve as secretary. Other officials include Nosa Iseleomon (Vice Chairman, South), Ehisota Oriakhi (Vice Chairman, Central), Richard Ehimigbai (Vice Chairman, North), Tes Sorae (Woman Leader), Benjamin Ehinlebodiaye (Treasurer), Emma Akhaba (Auditor), Daniel Okojie (Organising Secretary), Bob-Manuel Umoru (Publicity Secretary), William Umoru (Legal Adviser), Moses Izobo (Financial Secretary), and Destiny Oreye (Youth Leader).
Chief Orbih emphasized the need for unity and discipline among party members and urged the new leaders to focus on healing internal divisions and rebuilding party strength in both states.
