Governor Zulum Launches 7.1 km Express Road and Fourth Flyover in Borno

Governor Babagana Zulum flags off the construction of a 7.1 km express road and a new flyover in Maiduguri, along with key development projects aimed at boosting Borno’s infrastructure.

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has officially launched the construction of a 7.1 km express road from the terminus junction to Molai, which will feature a 6-span bridge and the state’s fourth flyover. The project, located in the busy Post Office area of Maiduguri, is part of the ongoing urban renewal efforts to address the growing vehicular traffic in the state capital.

The new infrastructure will enhance access to major economic zones, schools, and healthcare facilities, providing smoother routes for both commuters and goods. The project, with an estimated timeline of 8 to 10 months, is expected to create numerous job opportunities for both skilled and unskilled workers, further contributing to Borno’s economic growth and resilience.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Governor Zulum emphasized the importance of expanding Maiduguri to accommodate the city’s increasing population. He highlighted the significance of the 7.1 km dual carriageway and additional bridge, noting that the developments were aimed at more than just beautification—they are necessary for the city’s growth. Zulum also urged the contractors to adhere to quality standards and meet deadlines, with the total project budget set at N16 billion, half of which has already been paid.

In addition to the infrastructure projects, Governor Zulum announced five other key developments, including the construction of a new market, an orthopedic hospital, another general hospital, an international hotel, and a western bypass. He assured the public that all projects would be completed before the end of his tenure.

Governor Zulum also addressed the ongoing water crisis in Maiduguri, caused by last year’s devastating floods. While urging residents to remain patient, he reassured them that the state government is actively working to restore the city’s water supply system.
