George Turnah, the newly appointed chairman of the Bayelsa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has committed to revitalizing the party with a focus on unity and internal reforms. Turnah, who also serves as the South-South zonal secretary, made this promise as he officially assumed his new role. He expressed his determination to implement meaningful changes within the party, including improving welfare packages for the State Working Committee, local government, and ward executives.
In a statement delivered by his media assistant, Kelvin Loveday-Egbo, Turnah thanked Chief Dan Osi Orbih, the National Vice Chairman of the South-South zone, for entrusting him with this responsibility. He emphasized that his primary goal is to ensure the party’s success in the 2027 elections in Bayelsa. Turnah outlined plans to establish a more accessible state Secretariat, distancing himself from the previous practice of operating from the Government House Lodge, a location he believes limited his interaction with party members. He stressed that moving away from this setup would allow for better engagement with stakeholders and more effective party coordination.
Turnah also promised to foster greater discipline within the party and maintain an open-door policy to strengthen collaboration among members. Despite his optimistic outlook, the party’s secretariat was notably quiet, with minimal activity observed at its usual location on Isaac Boro Express Road. Sources revealed that party officials were meeting elsewhere to discuss the ongoing developments, including the dissolution of the State Working Committee. This move follows a recent court ruling that confirmed the Dan Orbih-led Zonal Working Committee as the legitimate leadership, resolving the internal disputes within the party.
