Police in Bauchi State have arrested 13 suspects linked to the death of an 18-year-old girl following alleged rape and an unsafe abortion in Misau town. The command said the arrests followed a report received on April 4.
According to the police, investigations showed that four months earlier, two young men—Usman Umar, 22, and Sallau Ayuba, 21, allegedly lured the teenager and repeatedly raped her at different locations, including a lodge in the area. After discovering she was pregnant, they reportedly paid N40,000 to Abubakar Mohammed, 35, a second-year student at A.D. Rufai College for Islamic and Legal Studies, to terminate the pregnancy.
Police reports indicated that the abortion was carried out using injections. The girl later lost consciousness and became seriously ill. She was taken to the General Hospital Misau, and later referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Azare. She died while receiving treatment.
