DSS Arrests 54 Criminal Suspects, Recovers 5,000 Rounds of Ammunition in Kaduna

DSS arrests 54 suspects in Kaduna, including security operatives, and recovers arms and ammunition in major security breakthrough.

The Kaduna State Command of the Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested 54 individuals after carrying out 34 operations across the state. The suspects include serving security personnel, bandits, gunrunners, informants, cyber fraudsters, human traffickers, vandals, and relatives of suspected criminals.

Governor Uba Sani, represented by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Sule Shuaibu (SAN), commended the DSS for its work during a press briefing after a visit to the DSS headquarters in Kaduna. He praised the leadership of Mr. Oluwatosin Ajayi for fostering effective cooperation with other security agencies.

Among those arrested were eight suspected bandits, 22 informants, four gunrunners, two human traffickers, four cyber fraudsters, two vandals, and 12 family members of alleged bandits. The operations led to the recovery of five AK-47 rifles, one General-Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), three Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) launchers, and about 5,000 rounds of different types of ammunition.

During the same period, 79 kidnapped victims were rescued and handed over to the state government.

One of the arrests involved a serving security operative in Zamfara State who admitted to stealing ammunition intended for operations against bandits. He was caught with 217 rounds of assorted ammunition, which he planned to sell for ₦4 million.

Another gunrunner was arrested while trying to sell 500 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition for ₦1.5 million. In a separate incident, a suspect was intercepted on his way to Katsina State with 1,087 rounds of ammunition. His associate, who was arrested in Funtua, Katsina State, was carrying 701 rounds intended for Zamfara State.

Governor Uba Sani also applauded President Bola Tinubu for appointing Mr. Oluwatosin Ajayi as the Director General of the DSS, highlighting that the agency’s renewed strength is playing a major role in improving national security.
