Nigeria has offered its condolences to the Islamic Republic of Iran after a deadly explosion rocked Shahid Rajaee Port in the southern part of the country, near the Strait of Hormuz, on Saturday, April 26, 2025. The explosion resulted in the tragic loss of 28 lives and left over 800 people injured.
In a statement released on Sunday, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, conveyed Nigeria’s heartfelt sympathy to the Iranian government and its citizens. The statement also expressed solidarity with the victims’ families and commended the rapid response of Iranian emergency services in the aftermath of the disaster.
“Nigeria stands firmly with Iran in this sorrowful moment, sharing in the grief of those who lost loved ones,” the statement read. It further encouraged continued efforts to aid the injured and support the affected communities, extending thoughts and prayers to all those impacted by the tragedy.
The explosion, which targeted one of Iran’s critical ports, has drawn widespread international support and renewed calls for global cooperation in providing relief to the affected regions.
