A fatal accident occurred in Lagos on Sunday when a cyclist crashed into a moving truck at Alausa Bus Stop, near ‘Radio’ on Kudirat Abiola Way. The crash happened around noon when the cyclist, reportedly speeding, collided with a truck registered under BDG 610 YA. Eyewitnesses stated that the cyclist was distracted by a phone conversation through an earpiece at the time of the incident, which may have led to the crash.
Officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) responded swiftly to the scene, securing the area and handling the body. LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed that initial investigations showed the cyclist lost control while attempting a maneuver from Kudirat Abiola Way to ‘Radio’. The crash caused the cyclist to hit his head hard on the pavement, resulting in his instant death.
The collision caused temporary traffic congestion, but LASTMA officers worked efficiently to clear the scene and restore normal traffic flow. Police from the Alausa Police Division arrived shortly after being notified and took custody of the deceased’s body, which was later transported to the General Hospital mortuary in Ikeja.
LASTMA’s General Manager emphasized the importance of road safety, urging cyclists to wear proper gear and stay focused on the road. He also expressed condolences to the family of the deceased while reinforcing the need for all road users to remain alert and adhere to safety measures.
