A new development has surfaced in the investigation into the death of Nigerian hip-hop star Ilerioluwa Promise Aloba, known as Mohbad. The Break the Silence Foundation has raised concerns over what it describes as the suppression of crucial evidence and possible political interference in the case. In an open letter dated April 11, the foundation, through human rights advocate and Nollywood actor Yomi Fabiyi, urged President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action.
The letter claims that the police have ignored video evidence suggesting that Mohbad may have been murdered, despite the footage being available since December 2024. According to Fabiyi, the evidence includes a confession of homicide and an eyewitness account, both shared by Mohbad’s younger brother on TikTok. The letter accuses the authorities of deliberately concealing the video and protecting those allegedly involved in the crime.
Fabiyi expressed concern over the potential consequences of such a cover-up, warning that it could lead to widespread civil unrest. He further suggested that the suppressed video might resurface closer to the next election, with the intent to damage the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidates.
The letter concludes with a call for President Tinubu’s intervention, citing his connection to the entertainment industry and stressing that if such an incident can occur to a public figure, it could happen to anyone. Fabiyi’s plea ends with a powerful message: “The youths are observing, the student union is expectant, the industry is waiting, and the world is watching.”
