Yaba College of Technology (YabaTech) continues to earn recognition as a leading institution in technical and vocational education, with global industry leaders acknowledging its crucial role in shaping the workforce of the future. Jan Derck Van Karnebeek, the global CEO of Royal FrieslandCampina, recently lauded YabaTech during an industry-academia event aimed at fostering partnerships between educational institutions and the business world.

Speaking at the Career Leap Series 1, held at YabaTech’s Yusuf Grillo Auditorium, Karnebeek emphasized that the college is an ideal partner for industry collaborations due to its consistent focus on high-quality education and practical skills development. “You are doing a fantastic job,” he said, adding that the college’s focus on practical skills, entrepreneurship, and adaptability is something many institutions worldwide aspire to replicate.

Royal FrieslandCampina’s Middle East, Pakistan, and Africa President, Ali Khan, also spoke at the event, underlining the increasing importance of soft skills in the workplace. “Technical skills might get you in the door, but soft skills keep you in the room and position you to lead,” Khan remarked.

Dr. Ibraheem Abdul, the rector of YabaTech, welcomed the partnership, calling it a timely and strategic move for the institution. He expressed his vision for YabaTech to have a global presence, stating that the college is committed to bridging the gap between classroom education and the professional world, with plans to expand its impact across Africa and beyond.
