The Lagos State Police Command has successfully apprehended Abubakar Iliyasu, the prime suspect in the murder of 65-year-old Mrs. Jane Okoye, who was killed in the Orile Iganmu area on April 2, 2025. According to a statement from the police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the arrest followed an extensive investigation by the Homicide Section of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Yaba.
Iliyasu allegedly forced his way into Okoye’s residence, stole her Toyota Sienna vehicle, and left her unconscious. She was rushed to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. After the case was transferred to the CID for further investigation, detectives utilized intelligence and technical resources to locate the suspect. Their efforts led to the capture of Iliyasu in Ankpa, Kogi State, where he was arrested and the stolen vehicle was recovered in good condition.
Iliyasu is currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yaba, where he is assisting with the investigation. The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, assured the public that the suspect will face prosecution once the investigation is concluded, reaffirming the police’s commitment to ensuring justice and protecting citizens in Lagos State.
