US to Resettle First Group of White South Africans Amid Diplomatic Tensions

The US is set to resettle the first group of white South Africans, amid a row over land expropriation and racial discrimination claims from Trump.

The United States is preparing to welcome the first group of white South Africans as part of a resettlement plan announced by the Trump administration. Reports confirm that the first arrivals are expected as soon as next week, following President Trump’s criticism of South Africa’s land expropriation policies, which he claims discriminate against ethnic minority Afrikaners. The dispute stems from a law passed earlier this year, which allows the South African government to seize farmland without compensation under certain circumstances. Trump has argued that the law will lead to the confiscation of white-owned agricultural properties, a move he believes is racially discriminatory.

This move comes after Trump, whose ally Elon Musk is originally from South Africa, vowed to prioritize a refugee program for Afrikaners who are allegedly suffering from racial prejudice. The initial plan includes resettling up to 1,000 Afrikaners, with the first group scheduled to arrive by Monday, though the exact date may change due to logistical concerns. Trump has also taken action by freezing US aid to South Africa in response to the land policy. The Afrikaners, primarily descendants of Dutch colonists, have long been involved in farming and agriculture in South Africa, a nation where apartheid policies were enforced until 1994.
