A kidnapping incident in Ondo State has left the community on edge after the abduction of Nelson Adepoyigi, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. The victim was reportedly seized at around 10 p.m. on Monday while parking his car at his residence in Ifon town. According to a family source, the assailants beat Adepoyigi with sticks before taking him away. His wife, who heard his cries for help, rushed outside to find that her husband had been kidnapped.
The kidnappers have since contacted the family and demanded a ransom of N100 million for his release. While negotiations are ongoing, the family has asked the abductors to lower the amount.
The state police spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the incident and stated that the victim was kidnapped near his farm along the Ifon-Owo road. In a separate but related event, tensions have been escalating in the Ikakumo community following a deadly clash between herdsmen and a local vigilante group. The violence broke out when a member of the vigilante group confronted a herdsman over the recent kidnapping of a local resident, Balogun. During the altercation, one herdsman was fatally stabbed, and two others, including the vigilante commander, were injured. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter and assured that the situation is under control.
