A well-respected broadcast journalist with Ogun State Television (OGTV), Mrs. Bukola Agbakaizu, tragically passed away on May 12, 2025. The 52-year-old journalist collapsed while preparing for her afternoon shift at the station and was later confirmed dead at the Federal Medical Centre. Her sudden death left the media community in shock.
The Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, Mr. Bunmi Adigun, confirmed the sad news in a statement issued on Tuesday. He praised Agbakaizu for her exemplary service, noting her dedication to the craft of journalism. Agbakaizu was a passionate journalist and a former Vice Chairman of the OGTV Chapel, contributing significantly to the station’s operations. She was also remembered for her role in the Wale Olanrewaju-led Executive. Her loss is deeply felt, as her vibrant energy and commitment to her profession were unparalleled.
Agbakaizu is survived by two children and her elderly mother. The Ogun State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) also expressed their grief. Mrs. Sekinat Salam, the chairperson of NAWOJ, shared how Agbakaizu’s leadership and expertise were highly valued by the organization. She was remembered not only for her work in journalism but also for her kindness and compassion.
Though Agbakaizu’s life was tragically cut short at 52, her legacy as a dedicated media professional and a loving mother will endure. Her contribution to journalism and her impact on the Ogun State media community will not be forgotten.
