Entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit, has announced his investment in Chelsea Women’s Football Club (Chelsea FCW), acquiring a 10% stake in the team valued at approximately £20 million ($27 million). Expressing his enthusiasm on X, Ohanian, who is married to tennis star Serena Williams, emphasized his continued commitment to supporting women’s sports.
“I’ve bet big on women’s sports before, and I’m doing it again,” Ohanian stated. He shared his excitement about joining Chelsea FCW as both an investor and board member, looking forward to making the club the top women’s football team in America.
The 42-year-old entrepreneur has previously invested in Angel City FC, a U.S. women’s football team, and other women’s athletic ventures. Chelsea Women’s team, which has just secured its sixth consecutive Women’s Super League title and remained unbeaten throughout the 22-game season, has also won the League Cup. The team is set to compete for a domestic treble in the upcoming FA Cup final against Manchester United.
Ohanian praised the team’s remarkable achievements, stating, “These players are rewriting the game. Undefeated season. Eyes on the treble.” He added that his investment isn’t just about winning titles, but about ensuring that women’s sports receive the visibility, resources, and respect they truly deserve. Ohanian expressed confidence in his past successes in space and excitement for the future.
