The Obidient Movement has confirmed that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate in the 2023 general elections, is still a party member and has not joined any new coalition. This clarification came from Nana Kazaure, the Director of Strategic Communication and Media for the Obidient Movement, who issued a statement on Monday in Abuja. Kazaure responded to recent media reports suggesting Obi had been offered the vice-presidential position in a new coalition led by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 elections.
In his statement, Kazaure emphasized that Obi remains firmly with the Labour Party and assured that if any change in his political alignment were to occur, Obi would announce it personally. The Obidient Movement, which has received numerous inquiries from Labour Party members, expressed concern over the potential misconceptions arising from these speculative reports.
Kazaure further noted that while discussions about coalition-building are ongoing, there is no truth to the claims about Obi’s involvement in any such arrangement. He reiterated that Obi’s primary goal is to unite against bad governance, address critical issues such as corruption, poverty, poor healthcare, and education, and work towards a better Nigeria. The Obidient Movement also emphasized the importance of progressive politics that focuses on the well-being of the people rather than political power for its own sake.
The movement called for a stop to the sensationalism and speculation, urging Nigerians and the media to focus on contributing to the country’s growth and development.
