In a heartbreaking turn of events, an engaged couple, 25-year-old Alexus Lee and 35-year-old John JR Collins, lost their lives in separate accidents on Friday, May 16, in Louisiana. The couple, who had recently purchased a new home and were planning to marry in February 2026, were parents to a 4-year-old son, Gabriel.
According to the Louisiana State Police, two fatal accidents occurred on LA 67, in different parishes. The first crash involved Lee, who was driving a 2013 Toyota Highlander in East Baton Rouge Parish just after 2:00 a.m. Lee’s vehicle veered off the road, struck a culvert, and overturned. She was unrestrained and sustained fatal injuries, with her death confirmed at the scene. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, though a toxicology sample was taken for analysis.
After hearing about the accident, Collins was reportedly driving to the scene when he lost control of his 2016 Chevrolet Camaro. This second crash took place in East Feliciana Parish shortly before 3:45 a.m. Collins, who was driving at a high rate of speed, failed to navigate a curve and crashed into a tree. Like Lee, Collins was unrestrained and ejected from the vehicle, dying at the scene. Police have ruled out impairment but will conduct toxicology tests as part of the ongoing investigation.
