Nigerian Doctor Faces Backlash for Body Shaming Woman Online

Nigerian doctor sparks outrage after body shaming a woman online; advocate condemns the act, urging doctors to uphold respect and professionalism.

A Nigerian doctor from Kogi, DS Omeiza, has come under heavy criticism after posting an offensive description of a woman on Facebook. On May 27, the doctor shared a photo of the woman, calling her a “frog-looking structure” and insulting her intelligence. His post threatened to involve the woman’s family and ancestors, sparking widespread condemnation.

Yakubu Hope Oyiza, an advocate against human trafficking, publicly condemned the doctor’s remarks. Oyiza emphasized that doctors should be healers, not sources of harm, stating, “Doctor and body shaming should never be in the same sentence.” She highlighted that professionals in healthcare have a responsibility to uplift, not destroy, regardless of circumstances.

The incident has sparked conversations about respect, professionalism, and the damaging effects of body shaming, especially when it comes from trusted figures like medical doctors.
