OPC Member Arrested for Shooting 17-Year-Old Boy Dead in Lagos

Lagos police arrest OPC suspect for shooting a 17-year-old boy dead in Epe. Angry protests followed; police used tear gas to control the crowd.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) after a 17-year-old boy, Michael Olaifa, was shot dead in the Itapo area of Epe Local Government Area. According to CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police spokesperson, the incident took place around 3 a.m. on Monday. The suspect, whose identity remains unknown, allegedly fired at the teenager for reasons still under investigation and fled immediately after the shooting.

Following the tragic event, angry youths and residents carried Michael’s body through major parts of Epe in protest, demanding justice. The demonstration heightened tensions in the community until security forces, including police officers, arrived. To control the crowd, tear gas and warning shots were reportedly used, and the victim’s body was taken to the hospital for further examination.

After a thorough search, the police arrested the suspect and transferred him to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. The community remains shaken by the incident, hoping for a swift and fair resolution.
