Akume Affirms Federal Support for Maritime Reforms During Nigerian Shippers’ Council Visit

Senator George Akume reaffirms government backing for maritime reforms during his visit to the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, promoting a modern port sector.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, visited the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) headquarters in Lagos, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to ongoing reforms in the maritime sector. His visit highlighted the government’s focus on advancing the Marine and Blue Economy under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

During his address to the Council’s management team, Akume praised the NSC leadership and emphasized the importance of strategic reforms to enhance Nigeria’s port operations. He also pointed out President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts in improving national infrastructure, education, and empowerment, reflecting the country’s broader development goals.

Dr. Akutah Pius, the Executive Secretary and CEO of NSC, welcomed the SGF’s visit and stressed the Council’s crucial role in regulating and facilitating trade at Nigerian ports. He called for stronger support to accelerate the Council’s transformation into the Nigerian Port Economic Regulatory Agency (NPERA). Dr. Akutah urged stakeholders to collaborate in creating a modern, efficient, and investor-friendly maritime environment aligned with the government’s economic plans.

The visit underscored the government’s dedication to strengthening regulatory frameworks and improving service delivery within Nigeria’s maritime industry.
