Nigerian Army forces from Operation Hadin Kai have killed Abu Fatima, a senior commander of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and one of Nigeria’s most wanted terrorists. A bounty of 100 million naira was placed on Abu Fatima’s head. The operation took place in Aleru village, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, where Abu Fatima died along with two of his key lieutenants.
The Nigerian Army confirmed the success of the mission on its official Facebook page. Abu Fatima was known for leading ISWAP attacks in northern Borno, especially near the Baga axis. He was reportedly captured alive but died from severe bleeding during the encounter.
The troops seized motorcycles, AK-47 rifles, and bomb-making materials during the raid. This operation deals a serious blow to ISWAP activities in the region. For residents of Baga, Kukawa, Cross, Doro, and nearby communities, where many fishermen and farmers suffered attacks by the group, Abu Fatima’s death holds a significance comparable to that of the former Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau.
