Nigeria’s Super Eagles secured the 2025 Unity Cup title on Saturday evening after a dramatic 5–4 win on penalties against Jamaica at the Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford, England. The final ended 2–2 after full time, setting the stage for a tense shootout.
Moses Simon gave Nigeria an early lead in the 9th minute with a close-range finish, but Jamaica quickly hit back through Kaheim Dixon, who calmly slotted in from a Cephas cross. After the break, Samuel Chukwueze fired Nigeria back in front with a sharp left-footed strike from outside the box in the 53rd minute. Jamaica refused to back down, and Jonathan Russell equalised in the 64th minute, again assisted by Cephas.
With both sides unable to find a winner in regulation time, the match went to a penalty shootout. Nigeria kept their nerve, converting efforts from Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Bruno Onyemaechi, and Tolu Arokodare. Jamaica’s fourth kick, taken by Atkinson, hit the crossbar, handing Nigeria the advantage. Uche Chriantus stepped up to take the decisive penalty and calmly slotted it home, sealing the win.
This victory marks Nigeria’s second Unity Cup triumph, the first coming in 2004.
