Senator Sani Musa, representing Niger East and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, has donated ₦50 million and multiple truckloads of food to assist victims of the recent floods in Mokwa, Niger State. The contribution includes essential items such as rice, maize, and millet, aimed at providing immediate relief to thousands affected by the disaster.
According to the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), the flood was triggered by heavy rainfall, leading to the destruction of two bridges and two roads, as well as damage to three communities. Over 3,000 people were displaced, and 151 lives were lost. Hausawa and Tiffin Maza were among the areas most severely affected.
In a statement released on Saturday, Senator Musa expressed deep sympathy to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, traditional leaders, and residents of Mokwa. He acknowledged the pain and suffering of affected families, offering prayers and words of comfort. On behalf of himself and his constituents, he extended condolences to the government and people of the state.
He praised the efforts of the state government, traditional rulers, emergency services, and volunteers who have been working tirelessly to support victims. The senator also urged Nigerians, corporate bodies, and humanitarian organizations to contribute to the ongoing relief and rebuilding process.
Senator Musa emphasized the importance of collective support during times of crisis. He ended his statement with prayers for healing, peace, and strength for all those affected.
