A thrilling showcase of football talent will unfold in Ilorin, Kwara State, from April 12 to 19, as 16 youth teams battle it out in the highly anticipated Seyi Tinubu Citizens Football Tournament. The event, which has already sparked excitement across the region, aims to do more than just offer a competitive platform—it seeks to empower young Nigerians and inspire a movement of change.
The announcement was made during a press conference held on Thursday in Ilorin, where Bello Olamilekan, the head of the organizing committee, emphasized the broader significance of the tournament. “This isn’t just a football competition; it’s a movement,” Bello said. “It’s a declaration that our generation isn’t waiting for change—we’re creating it. We’re ready to lead, inspire, and transform our country.”
The tournament, which will run for one week, is not only a chance for the youth to showcase their skills but also serves as a scouting platform for emerging talent. The event is open to players aged 18 to 25, providing an opportunity for them to be noticed by scouts and potentially take their football careers to the next level.
A diverse range of teams has confirmed their participation, including: NA Royals, Skills FC, Morrow International FC, Ka’ah FC, FC Zeus, Alabama FA, Kwara Football Academy, Unity FA, Tsaragi Emirate FA, Eagle Stars FC, JAAD FA, AbraySports FA, D’Aztecs, La Planet FA, Asa United, and Legal Stars FC. Each of these teams is eager to fight for victory and contribute to the collective spirit of the tournament.
Bello also took the time to express gratitude to the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his continuous support for sports and youth development in the state. He referred to the governor’s efforts as a “lifeline” for young people, offering a foundation for a brighter future. “Kwara is not just surviving; we are thriving, and this tournament is part of that thriving future,” he added.
In addition to acknowledging the support from the local government, Bello also praised Seyi Tinubu, the tournament’s namesake, for his role in creating a platform that empowers young Nigerians. “Seyi Tinubu understands that football is more than just a game. It’s a language of dreams, a bridge connecting ambition to opportunity,” Bello said.
As the tournament draws closer, Bello encouraged all participants to approach the event with passion, integrity, and a deep sense of purpose. “This is about more than just winning a trophy. It’s about discipline, teamwork, and the relentless spirit of never giving up—qualities that will make champions not just on the pitch, but in life,” he concluded.
With the countdown on for the tournament’s kickoff, the excitement continues to build across the state, and the participating teams are ready to make their mark. The Seyi Tinubu Citizens Football Tournament promises to be an unforgettable event that celebrates both sport and the ambition of Nigeria’s youth.
