Anambra State has officially named its newly constructed Government House in Awka as Light House Awka. The naming aligns with the state’s long-standing slogan, “Light of the Nation.”
The announcement followed a State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting where the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, confirmed the decision. According to him, the council carefully considered several options before settling on the name that reflects the administration’s identity and vision.
In the same meeting, the council approved the immediate establishment of the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission. The move is part of efforts to implement the provisions of the recently signed Anambra State Electricity Law. Recruitment for technical experts to drive the commission’s operations has already commenced.
The government also took action to enforce laws regarding child welfare. All facilities currently used to harbor child beggars will be sealed and seized, as the state intensifies measures to protect vulnerable children.
Three major contracts worth over ₦350 million have also been awarded with deadlines ranging between six to eight weeks. One of the contracts, valued at ₦190.48 million, covers the construction of a pharmaceutical-grade kaolin processing warehouse at the Kaolin Plant in Ukpor, Nnewi South.
Another contract worth ₦110.11 million focuses on extending the Nnewi Industrial Line and installing a 750 KVA transformer at the same plant. The third contract, costing ₦155.65 million, is for the procurement and delivery of uniforms and gear for the Ocha Brigade, the state’s security and enforcement team.
