A public affairs analyst, Mr. Deyemi Saka, has praised President Bola Tinubu and Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Muhammed Matawalle, for revitalizing the Nigerian Navy with new equipment to tackle piracy and boost the economy.
Speaking on TVC’s This Morning program, Saka highlighted the recent commissioning of helicopters and drones during the Navy’s 69th anniversary in Lagos. He said these assets will help reduce oil theft and smuggling on Nigeria’s waterways, which have long hindered economic progress. Saka applauded the leadership of Dr. Matawalle and the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, for aligning their efforts with the government’s security goals.
Regarding the ongoing Boko Haram insurgency and rising violence in the North-Central region, Saka noted that the military is stretched thin by responsibilities that should belong to the police and the Department of State Services. He emphasized the need to clearly define and address conflicts such as the farmer-herder clashes to find lasting solutions. Saka also observed improvements in the army’s air wing across the northern states, signaling progress in security operations.
