The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State has publicly invited former governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to return to the party. This appeal followed a State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting held in Awka on June 5 to assess the party’s current situation and plan its next steps.
In a communique issued after the meeting, Anambra PDP Chairman, Mr. Chidi Chidebe, emphasized the importance of unity within like-minded political groups. He warned against forming alliances with ideologically mismatched parties under the banner of coalitions, stating such moves are unlikely to succeed.
Chidebe described the PDP in Anambra as restructured and revitalized, urging all past and aggrieved members, especially Obi, to consider coming back. He called on them to join forces in what he described as a renewed effort to build a better Nigeria.
He also encouraged the people of Anambra to support the party’s candidates in the upcoming elections, particularly Jude Ezenwafor and his running mate, Francis Okeke. He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the elections are fair, transparent, and free from bias.
The meeting concluded with the unanimous nomination of Chief Clems Ezike to the position of National Ex-Officio representing Anambra. Chidebe called on the Southeast Zonal Executive Committee, led by Chief Ali Odefa, to formally recognize and forward Ezike’s name to the PDP national secretariat.
Chidebe praised the party’s leadership for the smooth conduct of the National Executive Committee meeting held on May 27 and expressed confidence in the ongoing efforts to resolve internal conflicts within the party.
