Death Toll of Journalists in Gaza Hits 225 Amid Ongoing Conflict

Gaza’s journalist death toll rises to 225 amid intensified airstrikes, sparking urgent calls for investigation and global condemnation.

The death toll of journalists in Gaza has reached 225 since October 2023, the Gaza government’s media office confirmed yesterday. The figure rose after four more media workers lost their lives in an Israeli airstrike near al-Ahli Arab Baptist Hospital in Gaza City. This attack targeted a tent housing journalists from Arab satellite TV channels.

The Gaza media office condemned the killings, urging global journalist organizations, including the International Federation of Journalists and the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, to denounce these ongoing attacks on media personnel. Tahseen al-Astal, deputy director of the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, confirmed the deaths and called for immediate investigations.

Since March 18, over 4,400 Palestinians have died and more than 13,400 injured in Gaza, according to the Ministry of Health. This surge in violence followed Israel’s resumption of airstrikes after Hamas declined a U.S.-brokered ceasefire extension and hostage release. The truce had expired on March 1. Earlier in March, Israel cut power to a major desalination plant and blocked humanitarian aid from entering Gaza, worsening the humanitarian crisis.
