Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has addressed and dismissed claims suggesting a strained relationship between him and President Bola Tinubu. These claims followed an incident during the inauguration of Phase 1 of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway on Saturday, May 31. A video circulated online showing President Tinubu arriving at the venue and greeting several dignitaries, including governors from Borno, Bayelsa, and Cross River, while seemingly overlooking Sanwo-Olu, who stood nearby.
The clip stirred speculation, with many interpreting the moment as a sign of tension between the two political figures. However, during a recent visit to the President in Abuja, Sanwo-Olu was joined by members of the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors Advisory Council.
After the meeting, Sanwo-Olu spoke to reporters and refuted the circulating rumours. He described the President as both a father figure and leader, stressing that their relationship remains intact. His comments were aimed at putting an end to the speculations and reinforcing unity within the party’s leadership.
The meeting and Sanwo-Olu’s remarks were seen as a direct response to the online reactions that followed the viral video.
