A staff member of Northwest University Kano, Buhari Imam, has died after being attacked by phone thieves in Sheka Sabuwar Abuja, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State. The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, when Imam was stabbed during a robbery that left him with deep wounds in his stomach. His phone was the only item stolen.
Imam was rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for emergency treatment but passed away two days later, on Friday, June 13, 2025. He was known for being a devoted provider to his elderly mother and four siblings, whom he supported financially and emotionally.
The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), Northwest University Kano Branch, has condemned the killing and demanded swift action from the Kano State Government and security agencies.
Comrade Bashir Muhammad, the NASU Chairman, described the murder as a cruel loss to the university community and called for a full investigation to bring the attackers to justice. He stressed the need for authorities to improve safety in the area and support Imam’s grieving family.
The union urged the government to show a genuine commitment to protecting lives and preventing future tragedies of this kind.
