On June 16, 2025, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo reinstated Dr. Coulsdon Oahimire as the Executive Secretary of the Edo Primary Health Development Agency in Benin City. This decision follows a seven-week suspension prompted by a petition accusing Oahimire of misusing funds allocated for UNICEF immunization programs and basic life support training.
The petition claimed the funds, drawn from the Basic Health Support fund, were used to train medical doctors, nurses, and community health workers. To ensure an impartial inquiry, a committee was formed to investigate the allegations. The panel’s findings cleared Oahimire of any misconduct.
A source familiar with the matter stated that the suspension was a precautionary measure to prevent interference with the investigation, not an indication of guilt. Once the committee submitted its report, Oahimire’s reinstatement was promptly approved. Speaking on the matter, Oahimire expressed no resentment toward the petitioner, a staff member of the agency, and affirmed his commitment to collaborate lawfully with all colleagues. He also thanked those who supported the investigation and facilitated his return to the role.
