On June 20, 2025, a tragic incident occurred in Mangun Village, Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau State, where 12 wedding guests lost their lives. The Plateau State Police Command reported that a bus carrying passengers from Zaria, Kaduna State, to Qua’an Pan for a wedding was ambushed by a mob after the travelers lost their way. The attackers stopped the bus, set it on fire, and caused multiple casualties. The police received information about the attack at around 9:47 p.m. and quickly responded. Officers, along with other security agencies, arrived at the scene, dispersed the mob, and rescued 21 victims. Seven people sustained injuries and are receiving treatment, while 14 others were rescued unharmed.
The Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, visited the scene on Saturday morning with other security officials to assess the situation and ensure calm. The police have arrested 22 suspects linked to the attack. Adesina ordered personnel from the State Intelligence Department and the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a thorough investigation. Tactical teams and operational assets have also been deployed to Mangu to support the investigation and apprehend additional suspects. The police urge the public to avoid reprisal attacks and report suspicious activities to law enforcement to assist with the ongoing investigation.
