The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 31-year-old man named Joshua Osaigbovo in connection with the death of 21-year-old Osato Festus Edogiaweria in Benin City. According to a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Moses Yamu, officers recovered the woman’s body from a shallow grave close to the suspect’s residence in Iyanomon community, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.
The case started after Mrs. Ojo filed a missing person report at the Aduwawa Police Division on April 25, 2025. She told police her daughter had gone out with a friend on April 20 and never returned. The case was handed over to the State Criminal Investigations Department for further investigation.
After weeks of work, police operatives from the Family Unit tracked and arrested the suspect on June 18. The arrest was based on detailed investigations and technical clues. During questioning, Osaigbovo admitted to inviting the young woman to his home on April 27. He said they got into an argument, which turned physical. He claimed she fell during the fight, hit her head, and died.
He confessed that he moved her body with a wheelbarrow to a nearby bush and buried her in a shallow grave just a few meters from where he lived. On June 20, police followed him to the burial spot and recovered the remains after following proper procedures.
The suspect also had the victim’s phone in his possession. Police say he will be taken to court after the investigation is complete.
