PDP Pushes Ahead with 100th NEC Meeting Despite INEC Objection

PDP confirms its 100th NEC meeting will hold on June 30 despite INEC’s objections, as leadership tussle and internal tensions stir fresh concerns.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed that its 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025, at its national secretariat in Abuja. The event is seen as a major milestone for the party, especially when it faces growing internal tensions and a fresh disagreement with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The official notice came from PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, who emphasized the importance of the meeting. He reminded all constitutionally accredited NEC members of the scheduled session, which is set to begin at 1:00 PM at Wadata Plaza, Wuse Zone 5.

Party officials say the meeting will focus on crucial matters affecting the PDP’s leadership structure, internal operations, and overall political strategy. Although the detailed agenda was not made public, leaders stressed that the session could influence the party’s direction ahead of upcoming national developments.

However, the build-up to the meeting has not been smooth. INEC rejected the PDP’s notification letter for the meeting, claiming it lacked the required joint signatures from the National Chairman and the National Secretary. The commission argued that this violated electoral rules.

Ologunagba criticized the decision, saying INEC had no authority to interfere in the party’s routine internal meetings. But Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum stepped back from the statement, suggesting that the issue would be resolved through proper engagement with the commission.

Damagum also pointed to ongoing internal discussions to resolve the leadership dispute concerning the party’s National Secretary role.

To address the situation, senior PDP officials met with INEC representatives on Tuesday to seek common ground and ensure the NEC meeting could proceed without legal complications.

Despite the controversy, party leaders insist the meeting remains vital for building internal unity and preparing the PDP for future political battles.
