The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has confirmed the arrest of 26 suspects linked to the deadly June 13 attack in Yelewata, Benue State. The violence claimed over 100 lives, left several others injured, and destroyed properties worth millions of naira. Public outrage followed the tragedy, prompting strong criticism from President Bola Tinubu, who expressed disappointment over the police’s failure to act swiftly.
At a press conference on June 24 in Abuja, Egbetokun revealed that the suspects would face prosecution soon. He also mentioned the arrest of 22 individuals in Jos in connection with the brutal killing of nine people travelling to Quanpan for a wedding. According to the IGP, out of 28 people initially taken into custody, two have been released after being identified as bait used to track the main suspects.
