NDLEA Nabs 650, Seizes Over 6,600kg of Illicit Drugs in Nasarawa

NDLEA arrests 650 suspects and recovers over 6,600kg of hard drugs in Nasarawa, reaching 90,943 residents in awareness drive.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Nasarawa State has arrested 650 suspects and seized 6,633.667 kilograms of illegal drugs between July 2024 and June 2025. The State Commander, Mr. Dachi Elisha-David, made this announcement during the closing event of the 2025 UN International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, held in Lafia.

He explained that the success was made possible by a stronger anti-drug strategy introduced by the NDLEA Chairman, retired Brigadier-General Mohammed Marwa. Among those arrested were 632 men and 18 women. The confiscated drugs include Cannabis Sativa, Cocaine, Methamphetamine, Diazepam, Tramadol, Rohypnol, Pentazocine injections, and Codeine.

Within the same period, the command secured convictions for 105 offenders and filed 70 cases in court. Regarding public education, Elisha-David stated that 90,943 people across schools, parks, communities, and offices were reached through the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign.

He also spoke about challenges the agency is facing, including a shortage of vehicles, limited logistics, and insufficient funds to gather quality intelligence from informants. He added that some youths resist operations by attacking NDLEA officers during raids, making the work even more difficult.

Speaking on the theme of the 2025 observance, “The Evidence is Clear; Invest in Prevention,” he noted that it supports the global shift toward prevention, rehabilitation, and treatment over punishment. Elisha-David thanked Governor Abdullahi Sule, the governor’s wife, traditional leaders, and other supporters for backing the agency’s work and encouraged them to continue.
