PDP Warns of Local Council Fund Mismanagement in Sokoto, Eyes 2027 Comeback

With just two years to the 2027 elections, the PDP sounds the alarm over local government funding under APC in Sokoto State, urging immediate action to protect essential services.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sounded the alarm over how local government funds are being handled in Sokoto State under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Concerns were made public on Saturday when the PDP State Chairman, Hon. Bello Aliyu Goronyo, met with party officials from across the state at the party’s secretariat in Sokoto.

During the meeting, Hon. Goronyo emphasized the urgent need for clearer transparency and stronger accountability in managing funds meant for local councils. He pointed out that many of these councils are currently facing serious financial strain, which he linked directly to poor governance. According to him, the shortage of funds is already taking a toll on basic services and local development projects that communities rely on.

He further expressed worry that the situation, if ignored, could stall progress in key areas such as healthcare, education, and rural infrastructure. One of the immediate challenges highlighted was the limited access to clean drinking water in certain parts of the Sokoto metropolis, which he described as unacceptable in today’s world.

Goronyo urged the APC-led government to shift focus toward the everyday needs of the people and ensure that resources are used to improve lives at the grassroots level. He stressed that prioritizing public welfare should be at the heart of leadership.

Despite raising red flags, the PDP Chairman sounded hopeful about the party’s political future in the state. He said the PDP is already preparing to present a more responsive and people-centered agenda ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial elections. In his words, the people of Sokoto deserve leadership that genuinely cares and is ready to tackle their pressing challenges.

As campaigns begin to slowly take shape ahead of 2027, the PDP has vowed to remain actively engaged with the public on important governance matters. The party says it is determined to win back the trust of Sokoto residents and offer a credible alternative focused on real solutions.
