Troops from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke have carried out a successful operation against armed bandits in Ussa Local Government Area of Taraba State. Acting on solid intelligence about suspicious movements, soldiers stationed in Kwesati were deployed to a likely crossing point. As they moved into position, they encountered the bandits and opened fire.
The firefight forced the criminals to retreat into nearby forests, with many believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds. One of the bandits was killed during the shootout. After the clash, soldiers searched the area and recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine with three rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a motorcycle, and two mobile phones.
Captain Olubodunde Oni, spokesman for the Brigade, confirmed the details in a statement released Saturday. The Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, praised the soldiers for their discipline and courage, assuring the public that operations would continue until the area is completely secure. He also urged residents to report suspicious activity and support the army’s efforts to keep the state safe.
