Peter Obi Praises Ganduje’s Resignation, Calls It a Lesson for Other Leaders

Peter Obi commends Ganduje’s decision to resign as APC chairman, urging leaders with health issues to step down for the nation’s good.

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has applauded Abdullahi Ganduje for stepping down as national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Ganduje, a former Kano State governor, resigned on Friday, citing health concerns. While official reports mentioned health as the reason, insiders suggested it might also be tied to ongoing political strategies ahead of the 2027 elections.

Reacting on X, Obi described Ganduje’s decision as commendable and responsible. He said it sets a good example for public office holders dealing with health challenges. According to him, choosing to step aside instead of holding on to power despite physical limitations is a bold and admirable move.

Obi urged other leaders struggling with similar issues to consider following Ganduje’s example. He stressed that Nigeria’s current problems demand leaders who are mentally and physically capable of acting swiftly and decisively. He warned that continued reliance on medically unfit leaders, frequent overseas treatments, and prolonged absences are slowing national development.

The former Anambra State governor concluded by wishing Ganduje a peaceful retirement and expressed hope that other public figures would learn from this decision.
