TCN Reconnects Owerri-Ahoada Line to National Grid After One-Month Blackout

After a month-long blackout caused by vandalism, TCN restores power to Bayelsa and parts of Rivers State through the Owerri-Ahoada 132KV line, reconnecting it to the national grid on April 11.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has successfully restored power to the national grid through its 132 kilovolt Owerri-Ahoada transmission line. The reconnection was completed on April 11 around 6 p.m., bringing relief to residents of Bayelsa and parts of Rivers State who had been without electricity for over a month.

According to a statement issued in Abuja by Ndidi Mbah, General Manager of Public Affairs for TCN, this marks the end of the reconstruction efforts that began after a major act of vandalism brought down four transmission towers along the line route. The incident, which occurred on March 11, led to severe power outages across affected areas.

With the restoration of the transmission line, the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company has resumed power supply to the impacted regions. The company assured the public that it remains committed to maintaining a stable and reliable electricity supply across Nigeria.

TCN is urging communities to remain vigilant and help protect power infrastructure from further vandalism. The company stressed that safeguarding critical national assets is a collective responsibility and called on residents to report suspicious activities around transmission lines and installations.
