Kate Henshaw Speaks Out Against Age-Shaming: “Growing Older Is a Gift”

Actress Kate Henshaw calls out young Nigerians for using age as an insult, saying ageing is a privilege and a sign of real freedom.

Nollywood star Kate Henshaw has publicly criticised the growing habit among young Nigerians—especially men—of using age to mock women. In a video shared on her social media, she described the behaviour as ignorant and senseless.

She pointed out that it’s usually young men who resort to calling women “old” as a way to insult them. “Is that supposed to hurt me?” she asked. Henshaw questioned why people celebrate long life on birthdays but still use ageing as something negative. “Do you people want to die young?” she added, clearly frustrated.

The actress reminded her followers that ageing is a blessing, not something to be ashamed of. “The peace and confidence that come with age? That’s real freedom,” she said. Henshaw urged Nigerians to stop using age as an insult and understand that growing older is a sign of strength, not weakness.

She ended her message by saying no one can shame her for getting older and encouraged others to wear their age with pride.
