Nigerian singer Speed Darlington has sparked fresh debate with a video questioning Africa’s heavy reliance on prayer. In a clip shared on his Instagram page, he mocked the common phrase “God of Israel” often used by Africans during prayers. He pointed out that while Africans keep invoking the God of Israel, the nation of Israel itself seeks help from the United States in times of trouble.
“God of Israel, God of Israel—now Israel is calling the U.S.,” he said in the video. “Why didn’t the God of Israel help his own country?”
Taking the satire further, he mimicked how Africans pray with exaggerated sounds and chants, then sarcastically remarked that while Africans are busy praying, Israel is looking for real-world support. He ended the video with a blunt message in the caption: “Everything cannot be achieved from prayers. Our destiny is in our hands.”
The video quickly gained attention online, stirring reactions over the role of prayer, religion, and self-reliance in African societies.
