Governor Alia Warns Against Unapproved Visits to Benue Amid Heightened Security Concerns

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia issues strong warning on April 14, 2025, stressing that safety cannot be guaranteed for anyone entering the state without prior clearance.

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has made it clear that anyone entering the state without his knowledge is doing so at their own risk. In a public statement issued on Monday, April 14, 2025, the governor warned that he could not assure the safety of any individual or group who chose to visit Benue State without official notification or clearance. He firmly advised anyone with such plans to reconsider for their safety and well-being.

The statement, signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, emphasized that Governor Alia is currently occupied with crucial meetings involving top government officials focused on pressing matters affecting the state. As a result, he is not expecting any visitors, particularly high-profile figures or groups, who might be planning to enter the state without prior arrangement. The governor made it clear that any visit that may appear politically motivated or capable of drawing large gatherings would not be welcomed unless officially approved in advance.

Of particular concern to the governor are unannounced visits to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in Benue. He stressed that any individual or group intending to visit these camps must first obtain written permission from the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA). This directive is aimed at ensuring the safety of both the IDPs and the visiting parties, and to maintain proper coordination and order within the camps.

Governor Alia also called on security agencies and residents across the state to remain vigilant, urging them to support efforts aimed at preserving peace and public order. The announcement serves as a firm reminder that, amid current security challenges, structured communication and proper clearance remain essential for anyone planning a visit to Benue.
